시놉시스Synopsis

커피는 적도 주변, 생물학적으로 가장 다양한 지역에서 재배된다. 이곳은 삼림 벌채만 중지해도 기후 변화로 인한 악영향을 최소화할 수 있는 지역이기도 하다. 대부분의 커피는 토양과 지역 환경, 농장에서 일하는 사람들을 거의 또는 전혀 고려하지 않고 단일 작물로 재배된다. 하지만 커피는 사실 야생동물의 서식지를 보호하는 동시에 환경과 농부에게 여러 생태학적, 경제적 이익을 제공하면서, 열대지방의 토종 나무 아래 그늘에서 진정으로 지속가능한 방식으로 생산될 수 있다. <커피 전성시대>는 잘 익은 열매를 수확하는 것부터 완벽한 커피 한 잔을 내리기까지 커피의 전 과정을 들여다본다. 영화 속에서 만나는 전 세계의 열정적인 커피 농부와 로스터, 바리스타들은 우리가 어떻게 지속 가능한 커피 한 잔을 즐길 수 있으며, 이를 통해 어떻게 더 밝은 내일을 만들 수 있는지 보여준다. 커피 애호가와 자연 애호가 모두를 위한 다큐멘터리로 우리가 소비자로서의 역할은 물론 커피를 제대로 즐길 수 있는 방법을 이해할 수 있도록 돕는 작품이다. 

Coffee is grown in the most biologically diverse areas of the world in a belt around the equator; generally in places where halting the rapid deforestation plays a significant role in minimizing the negative consequences of climate change. Most coffee is grown as a mono-crop, often with little to no regard for its soil, local surroundings or people working in the farms. Thankfully, coffee can be produced in a truly sustainable way under the canopy of native trees in the tropics, protecting critical habitat for wildlife and providing a host of ecological and economic benefits to the environment and the farmer at the same time. <Shade Grown Coffee> provides insight into the coffee-making process, all the way from harvesting the ripe cherries to preparing the perfect cup of coffee. Passionate coffee farmers, roasters and baristas from around the world show how we can all enjoy a more sustainable cup – and a brighter tomorrow.
